These terms are the agreement between you and Dox Box for using our services. When you click Accept in the Portal, the Android app, the browser extension, Quinn or Dox, you agree to these terms. We also ask you to confirm that you have read our Privacy Policy, which explains how we handle your data; it is not part of these terms.
ℹ️
In short: Dox Box is a free, non-commercial hobby project run for a group of friends, plus a dice bot anyone can use. Be decent to people. Don’t break things, abuse the bots, or post anything illegal. Your content stays yours. We do our best to keep things running but can’t promise they always will. You can leave and delete your data whenever you like.
1. Who we are and what these terms cover
Dox Box is run by Ethan Sawyer, an individual in the United Kingdom, on a non-commercial basis (“Dox Box”, “we”, “us”). Contact: privacy@doxbox.org, or any administrator in our Discord server.
These terms cover all Dox Box services (together, the “Services”):
- the website (doxbox.org), the Portal (portal.doxbox.org) and the Dox Box API, including API keys;
- the Dox Box Android app and the Quinn browser extension;
- the Dox and Quinn Discord bots, and the Minecraft bridge;
- our game servers and game server panel, the image board (booru.doxbox.org) and the tabletop server (tabletop.doxbox.org).
“Members” means people with Dox Box membership (§2). “You” means anyone using the Services, including people who only use Quinn. Our Discord server itself runs on Discord and is covered by Discord’s terms and our server rules, not these terms. Some Services have extra rules, set out in §7. Commander Companion has its own terms.
2. Who can use the Services
- Dox Box membership covers the Portal, the app, the extension, Dox, the game servers and the community services. It is by invitation, is for people aged 18 or over, and may depend on having a particular role in our Discord server. Guests we invite onto our game servers must also be 18 or over.
- Quinn can be used by anyone aged 13 or over who also meets Discord’s minimum age in their country.
- You must be allowed to use Discord, and Google if you sign in with it, under their own terms.
By accepting these terms you confirm that you meet the age limit for the Services you use.
3. Your account
- You sign in with your Discord or Google account through our sign-in service. One account per person, please.
- Keep your sign-in details, API keys and devices secure. You are responsible for what you, and anyone you let use your account, API keys or scripts, do with them. You are not responsible for misuse that wasn’t your fault, such as a security failure on our side. Revoke anything you no longer trust under Profile → Security.
- API keys are personal. Don’t share them, sell access with them, or use them to get around limits.
- Tell us promptly if you think your account has been misused.
4. Acceptable use
When using the Services, you must not:
- break the law, or post or share anything illegal, including child sexual abuse material, terrorist content, intimate images of someone without their consent, and content that infringes someone else’s rights;
- harass, threaten, bully or discriminate against anyone, or post hateful content;
- post other people’s personal information without their permission, or impersonate anyone;
- post pornographic or sexually explicit material anywhere except the image board, where only administrators upload, it must be rated as explicit, and only signed-in adult members can see it. Other graphic content, such as gore, is allowed only where a Service’s rules say so, clearly labelled. Anything you send through Quinn, such as roll descriptions and character or campaign names, may be seen by people aged 13 to 17, so keep it suitable for them;
- post content that encourages suicide, self-harm or eating disorders;
- upload malware, or try to get into accounts, systems or data that aren’t yours;
- overload, disrupt or probe the Services, scrape them, or get around rate limits, permissions or security measures;
- spam, or use the bots to message people who haven’t asked for it;
- use the Services for any commercial purpose without our permission;
- cheat, grief or exploit bugs on our game servers, or break any rules posted for a particular server.
If you find a security problem, please tell us privately at privacy@doxbox.org and don’t exploit it. We appreciate it.
5. Your content
- Content you create, such as journal entries, notes, watchlists, images, comments, rolls and chat, stays yours.
- You give us permission to store, copy, display and adapt it (for example resizing images) and to repost it through the bots, only so we can run the Services. That means showing it to the people you share it with: your campaign, a watchlist’s members, a Discord channel, other image board members, and so on. This permission ends when you delete the content or your account, except as the Privacy Policy explains. For example, posts the bots made in Discord stay there, and items you added to a shared watchlist stay on it without your name.
- Only post content you have the right to share.
- Shared spaces, such as campaign journals and shared watchlists, are collaborative. Other members can see, and in some cases edit, what you contribute there.
- Keep your own copies of anything important. You can download your data at any time (see the Privacy Policy).
6. Keeping the Services safe: reporting, moderation and complaints
This section covers everything users post through the Services that other people can see: campaign journals, shared watchlists and notes in the Portal and app, comments on the image board, chat and content on our game and tabletop servers, and anything Quinn or Dox reposts in Discord. Things posted directly in Discord are also covered by Discord’s own rules and reporting tools.
How we protect you from illegal content
- Illegal content is not allowed anywhere on the Services. We treat child sexual abuse material, terrorist content and the other most serious kinds of illegal content named in the Online Safety Act 2023 as our top priority.
- Most of the Services are invite-only and our administrators know the members, which keeps the risk low.
- When we find out about illegal content, through a report or any other way, we take it down as quickly as we can. We may also suspend or remove the account that posted it. We report child sexual abuse material, and anything suggesting someone is at risk of harm, to the police or another relevant authority.
- Because Quinn can be used by people aged 13 to 17, content that is harmful to children, including pornography and content that encourages suicide, self-harm or eating disorders, is not allowed anywhere Quinn shows or reposts it.
- We don’t use automated scanning or other “proactive technology” to find content. Administrators review content by hand.
Reporting
Anyone can report, with or without an account. Email privacy@doxbox.org with “Report” in the subject, or message any administrator in our Discord server. Tell us where the content is and why it is a problem.
Intimate images shared without consent
If an intimate image of you is on the Services, or you are acting for the person shown, email privacy@doxbox.org with “Intimate image report” in the subject. Tell us where it is, confirm that you are the person shown or are acting for them, confirm that your report is made in good faith and is true to the best of your knowledge, and give us a way to contact you. We will take the image, and any copies we find on the Services, down as soon as reasonably practicable and no later than 48 hours after we receive your report, unless we conclude it is not an intimate image or the report did not come from the person shown or someone acting for them. If you complain about how we handled your report, we deal with that first.
Moderation
Administrators may remove content, limit features, or suspend or remove accounts that break these terms or put other people or the Services at risk. We apply these rules consistently. Where it is reasonable, we will tell you what we did and why, and give you a chance to respond.
Complaints and appeals
Email privacy@doxbox.org if you think content on the Services is illegal; if your content was removed, or you were warned, restricted or suspended, and you think we got it wrong; or if you think we are not meeting our duties under the Online Safety Act 2023, including on reporting, freedom of expression or privacy. We will acknowledge your complaint promptly, look at it again (where we can, with an administrator who wasn’t involved in the original decision), and tell you what we decided and why. If we got it wrong, we will restore your content or access.
7. Service-specific terms
Quinn
- Server owners and admins who add Quinn to a server decide where it is used in that server, and are responsible for making sure the people there are old enough (§2).
- In channels linked to a campaign, Quinn deletes messages that are dice rolls and reposts the result under the roller’s name. By linking a channel, the server’s admins allow this.
- A campaign can be linked to channels in several servers, and initiative announcements are posted to all of them that have notifications on. Only link channels where everyone is happy to see them.
- We may limit or remove Quinn from any server where it is being misused.
Dox
- Dox only works in the Dox Box Discord server.
- Activities are for real plans. Don’t use invites or sign-ups to spam or pressure people.
- Anything you post in the Minecraft bridge channel appears in the game’s chat, and Minecraft chat appears in Discord.
Game servers
- Access to the game servers and panel is for members and the guests we invite, and server-specific rules apply.
- Games are also covered by their publishers’ terms. For example, you must follow the Minecraft EULA and own a legitimate copy of the game.
- Worlds, saves and server settings may be reset, changed or retired.
Image board and tabletop server
- Only signed-in members can see the image board, and only adult members are given accounts. Only administrators upload and tag images; members can comment, score and favourite. Respect copyright and any rules shown on the board.
- On the tabletop server, game worlds belong to the GM running them, and the GM may change or remove them.
Android app and browser extension
- Google Play’s terms also apply to the app, and the Chrome Web Store’s or Firefox Add-ons’ terms to the extension.
- Updates may be needed to keep them working.
- The extension works alongside Shmeppy but is not made by or affiliated with Shmeppy.
8. Other companies’ services
The Services rely on, and link to, services run by others, such as Discord, Google, Steam, Mojang, Shmeppy, TMDB, IGDB and Scryfall. Their own terms apply to your use of them, and we are not responsible for them. We are not affiliated with or endorsed by any of them, and their names and trademarks belong to them.
Card information shown by Dox comes from Scryfall. Dox Box is unofficial Fan Content permitted under the Fan Content Policy. Not approved/endorsed by Wizards. Portions of the materials used are property of Wizards of the Coast. ©Wizards of the Coast LLC.
9. The Services are free and provided as they are
- The Services are free. Donations are voluntary, don’t unlock anything, and don’t give you any extra rights under these terms. If we ever offer something paid, it will come with its own clear terms first.
- Dox Box is a hobby project run in our spare time. We work to keep it secure and running, but we don’t promise it will always be available or error-free, or that any particular feature will continue. We may change, pause or retire any Service. Where we reasonably can, we will give notice and a chance to download your data.
- Dice results come from a random number source and are provided for fun. Please don’t rely on the Services for anything important.
10. Liability
- Nothing in these terms limits or excludes our liability for death or personal injury caused by our negligence, for fraud, or for anything else the law does not allow us to limit. If you are a consumer, nothing here affects your legal rights.
- The Services are free and for personal, non-commercial use, so we are not liable for any loss of profit, business or opportunity.
- We are not responsible for loss or damage that was not foreseeable, or that was caused by events outside our reasonable control, by other users, or by other companies’ services. Loss or damage is foreseeable if it was obvious it would happen, or if both of us knew it might happen when you started using the Services.
- Please keep copies of anything important (§5). We are not responsible for content lost from the Services unless we lost it by failing to use reasonable care and skill.
- If the app or the extension damages your device or other digital content because we failed to use reasonable care and skill, we will repair the damage or pay you fair compensation.
- Subject to the first point, our total liability to you for everything relating to the Services is limited to £50.
11. Ending the agreement
- You can stop using the Services at any time, and delete your account and data from Profile → Privacy & Data in the Portal or the app, or by emailing us.
- We can suspend or end your access to some or all of the Services if you break these terms or put other people or the Services at risk (§6), if you stop being a member of our Discord server or lose the role a Service requires, if the law requires it, or if we close a Service. Except where it is urgent or serious, or the law prevents it, we will give you reasonable notice and a chance to download your data.
- If your access ends, your data is handled as described in the Privacy Policy.
- Sections 5 (for content already shared), 10 and 13 continue to apply after the agreement ends.
12. Changes to these terms
We may change these terms to reflect changes in the law or regulators’ guidance, to add, change or retire a Service, for security reasons, or to make them clearer. Small changes, such as corrections, take effect when we publish them. When we make a significant change, we publish a new version and ask you to accept it the next time you use the Portal, the app, the extension, Quinn or Dox; the same step shows you any changes to the Privacy Policy. If you don’t want to accept, you can stop using the Services, and you can still download or delete your data without accepting.
13. General
- These terms, including the rules for particular Services referred to in §7, are the agreement between you and us about the Services. Our Privacy Policy explains how we use your personal data; it is not part of this agreement.
- These terms are between you and us. No one else has any right to enforce them.
- We may transfer this agreement, and the running of the Services, to another person or group who agrees to keep to these terms and the Privacy Policy, for example if someone else takes over Dox Box. We will tell you before it happens so you can delete your account first if you prefer. For the browser extension, we will ask for your consent before transferring any of its data. You may not transfer your account or this agreement to anyone else.
- If any part of these terms is found to be unenforceable, the rest still applies. If we don’t enforce a term straight away, we can still enforce it later.
- These terms are governed by the law of England and Wales. You can bring legal proceedings about the Services in the courts of England and Wales. If you live in Scotland you can also bring them in the Scottish courts, and in Northern Ireland in the Northern Irish courts. If you live in the EU you can also bring them where you live. Wherever you live, you keep the protection of any rules of your local law that cannot be overridden by agreement.
